Small Business Search Engine Optimisation
Small business Search Engine Optimisation
Just because your business or company is small does not mean that you cannot benefit from search engine optimisation. You do not need large budgets or dedicated marketing teams to create a search engine optimisation campaign for small business.
The majority of small businesses will be looking for local search engine optimisation. Local SEO means performing well in local / regional searches. An example is if a visitor searches Google for “builders Stafford”, in this instance as a small business you only want to show up locally.
There are a number of inexpensive ways to boost your local SEO including:
-
Ensure that your domain name is a UK based domain name. Domain names such as .com are nice but tell search engines little about where you website is hosted. Getting a .co.uk domain for example gives far more information to a search engine as to your location.
-
Ensure that your website is hosted within the UK. Do not assume that just because you are hosted with a UK company that your website is actually hosted in the UK. Many UK companies use servers in the USA or elsewhere in Europe. Check with your web hosting provider as to where their servers are located.
-
Register with Google Local. To see Google local in action go to www.google.co.uk and enter “printers Stafford”. You will be presented with a map with locations of printers local to Stafford overlaid. This is a very effective way to get local enquiries to your business. The good news is that anyone with a local business can apply for a Google Local listing as long as your registered address is within the area requested.
